A Tribute to the Lady, the Legend: Lauren Bacall

The past week has been difficult, two big losses hit the film community. Robin Williams' tragic death due to depression shocked the world, and just a day after, Hollywood lost a queen. Bacall's death hit me harder than Williams'. His was more tragic due to his age and circumstances, but I grew up more with Lauren Bacall.
While Robin Williams is like a family friend that you call your uncle, whom you love for his humor and kindness,  Lauren Bacall is like the glamourous grandmother you watch get ready and admire for her beauty, grace, and spirit.

ModCloth Items Ewe and I Can't Live Without (With-Trout?)

I recently put myself on a shopping ban considering I'm moving and don't have the funds or the room to support my shopping addiction,
but now of course ModCloth has a whole section on their site dedicated to "Cute Critters"

COME ON. NO FAIR. How can I resist? As an animal and kitsch lover it's taken all my strength to not purchase a THING from the collection. Playing with my heart strings.

Maybe I could live vicariously through the rest of you by sharing my favorites and watching you purchase them.

Listed from most to least expensive with me trying to defend a reason why I might need them:

Irregular Choice's Critter-cal Support Heel
Uh, when would these shoes not be practical? Perfect for grocery shopping, the county fair, hiking, biking, you name it.

Photo Shoot with Austen- Part Two: Chic

Austen not only did me a huge favor in general (see my last post for details if you haven't already), but she drove us to five (five!!!!) locations!

Here's where the outfit change and 'classy' shoots happened. We went to the Historical Driskill Hotel and to my favorite museum in central Texas, The Blanton.

Photo Shoot with Austen- Part One: Kitschy

Welcome to my first ever photo shoot! Austen was kind enough to put her photography skills towards doing me a big favor. She's been following me on various social mediums (social medias?) for ages, and in the past has been so sweet and even called me an inspiration for her own body confidence! I don't know if she looks up to me as much now that she knows what I'm actually like after meeting me in person haha. Nevertheless, take a gander at her beautiful work (despite her camera acting up that day), and she helped me with poses etc. and gave me some helpful positive reenforcement.
This post is all thanks to her!

Heidi Braids Tutorial

First off I'd like to apologize for the overexposure! I just wanted to guarantee everyone could see the details of my hair. How do women with black hair do hair tutorials??
Alas, they may not be very pretty pictures but they serve their purpose.

Art Trade with Art Babes

I was lucky enough to set up an art trade with a multitude of lady artists I've gotten to know through Instagram.
This was great practice and an absolute delight to do, plus I got a bunch of free art out of the deal which isn't too shabby. I know as an artist it can be almost impossible to have art done of you, or your subject of choice, since you're the one who's always doing it for others! This gave everyone a chance to feel the love both ways.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day (and it's a Really Fabulous Day)

I apologize in advance for the outrageous amount of screen shots, I just couldn't help myself. I actually almost cried over the beauty of this movie (literally- used in it's proper form, not normal white girl exaggeration: literally almost cried)

Bonnie and Clyde Beauty Inspiration

If you've seen the new Bonnie and Clyde film you know the only reason it's worth watching is because Holliday Grainger and Emile Hirsch are total cuties. The whole time I missed the film's faults because Bonnie's makeup was killer.

She has beautiful cheekbones and a little rosebud mouth they accentuated with blush, minimal eye makeup, and the perfect red lip!

Rather than go for the same subtle look I went a little more over the top and went with other 1930s inspirations, this is the reason it's dangerous for me to watch period pieces while getting ready.

June Outfit Roundup

June has been a month of milestones for me, some marvelous and some not so great:

  • I started a new job
  • Received a significant raise and promotion within two weeks of working that job
  • Ended up emotionally abused at that job, and harassed by the owner of the company
  • And I just turned in my two week notice
  • I also had my 19th birthday
  • Wore a two piece swimsuit out for the first time in my 19 years
  • And finally got my drivers license (!!!!!!)
  • Last but not least, I started this blog

The Female and the Feline

In the crazy Texas heat I decided to throw on one of my ultra-feminine sundresses. This pretty little thing was a gift from my aunt from a Connecticut boutique.

Decided to take pictures in my kitchen to avoid the heat, but our back porch is painted mint green giving the light quite a green tint!

A Big Dose of Southern Hospitality

I recently was given permission to do a blog post about my boyfriend's parents gorgeous southern home. Honestly, his mother keeps this place like a Bed and Breakfast!
--I elected to not include pictures of the outside of their house to respect their privacy--

Pops You're the Tops- Late Father's Day Post

I am a daddy's girl, through and through. Maybe it's because my dad lost his father at such a young age, but he's always tried to be very involved in my life and very close to me. I love that big Italian jerk who makes awful jokes and knows way too much about privacy laws. ...and who has a rat's tail hairdo that I can't imagine him without.

Top Notch Hot Rod Drive In Night

If you live in Austin or the surrounding towns and have never been to Top Notch burgers, it's worth a trip. I don't eat meat or fried food but it's the cutest little place and my guy swears by their burgers and fried okra (can you say "Texas"?)
Top Notch is also the location of a scene of the iconic movie Dazed and Confused. More importantly it's the location of me and Cason's favorite car shows, their Monthly Hot Rod Drive In Night.

One of our first dates three years ago was to one of these shows, and now all these years later Cason has his pretty little 1962 Thunderbird and actually gets to be in the show!

One Year Closer to Velcro Shoes- but I'm Not There Yet

As many of you know (well maybe all of you, I'm fairly sure all of my blog readers are from my Instagram) my birthday was on the 4th. It was a pleasant and casual day and I was ecstatic about my gifts this year.

I'll likely do a big post about all of them but here's a little outfit post of my two favorites:
Swedish Hasbeens from Dad and a Kate Spade lemon clutch from my mom's little sister and my Godmother Sharon.

Things I Want Thursday: Lingerie Edition

Okay, so, these are definitely things I want not things I need...Especially since my birthday was yesterday and I was treated to a multitude of things I wanted and needed. Nevertheless, today to unwind from work I did a little online window shopping. Here is what I found out that I need. want.

It "Hat" to be You

The hat in my last post seemed to be fairly popular so I thought I'd make a post about my hat collection!

Introducing Anna

Hello all I'm brand spankin' new to this, so please bear with me! I'm your hostess Anna, welcome to Redhead Without a Cause. If y'all didn't catch the reference, it's a play on Rebel Without a Cause- the iconic James Dean film (I'm hilarious I know). Many of you know me from Instagram, and quite a few from my old tumblr. Tumblr went up in flames and I couldn't bear another experience like that so I will ask you to please be pleasant- with me and anyone else concerning this blog. If you behave, I will too.

I thought a good way to kick off the blog would be to feature my new eshakti black tulle skirt. If you don't know their brand they are amazing for women of all sizes, you can customize everything from length to waist to color to whether you want pockets or not! Perfect for us girls with measurements that don't easily fit into the sizes of "small, medium, large" due to crazy boob-waist-hip ratios.
